What is Client in SAP

A Client is the highest organizational element of SAP system’s organizational structure that contains User Master Data, Customizing data and Application Data. An SAP S4Hana system can contain or more clients in logical systems and you can log on to SAP S4 Hana system in a specific client.

  • In SAP system, a client is identified with 3 digits unique code
  • Standard SAP system delivers with clients 000, 001, 066

As per SAP System’s Landscape, you can have 3 or more clients {Systems}

1. Development – Dev client can be used for  configuration, customization and development of new components and functionalities.

2. Quality Assurance System – QAS client is used for testing. upgrades and transports prior to implementation in production system.

3. Production Client – PROD client is with live data used for Productive activities and business data

Additional an SAP system can have the following clients

4. Sandbox  – Sandbox client is used for sampling of customizing transactions and settings

5. Test – Test client is used for testing of configuration settings with data

6. Training  – Training client is used for end user customer training environment

7. Pr-Production – All the pre production activities are done before the live production activities.

The configuration of SAP system is done in the development client -> Transported to Quality Assurance System for testing -> Final configuration transported to production system which is final and live system to the production activities.

How to Create New Client in SAP S4 Hana System

You can create new clients in SAP S4 Hana system by using the following steps

  • Transaction Code – SCC4
  • Menu Path – Tools -> Administration -> Administration -> Client Administration -> SSC4 – Maintenance

Step 1: Execute SAP Transaction Code “SCC4” in the SAP command field and press enter to continue

Step 2: On Display View “Clients”: overview screen, it displays list of available clients in SAP S4Hana system. Click on Edit option or Go to More -> Table View -> Change.

Step 3: An Information box displays on the screen as “Caution: The table is cross-client”. Press enter to continue.

Step 4: On Change view “Client” overview screen, click on “New Entries” button to create a new client in SAP S4 Hana system.

Step 5: On New Entries of Client creation screen, update the following details

  • Client – Enter a new client number {For example 600} and name of client
  • City – Enter the location of city name
  • Currency – Enter the currency key, and it will be default currency for the client
  • Client Role – Select the client role from the drop down list.
  • Changes and Transport for Client-Specific Objects – Choose the appropriate option from the given list
    • Changes without automatic recordings
    • Automatic recording of changes
    • No changes allowed
    • Changes w/o automatic recording no transports allowed
  • Cross-Client Object Changes – Choose the relevant option from the given list of
    • Changes to repository & cross-client customizing allowed
    • No changes to cross client customizing objects
    • No change to repository objects
    • No changes to repository /cross client customizing objects
  • Client copy and comparison Tool protection  – Choose the relevant option, choose the protection level 0: No restriction
  • CATT and eCATT Restriction – Choose the relevant option from the list

Create New Client in SAP S4 Hana system

After maintain the required details, click save option and save the details in SAP. Successfully we have created a new client “600” with Test Role in SAP S4 Hana system.
